Kapuzinerstraße apartment tour

So, several people have asked what our apartment is like and since I was equally as curious before we arrived (pictures only get you so far!), I thought I'd share a little glimpse.

Things already look a little different than in the videos I linked below since we've added a bed to the girls' room (it came with 2 twins beds and we needed a 3rd)...
GE gets the 3rd bed tucked in behind the 2 twins that came with the apartment.
Notice the wooden chest--each girl now has their own little chest for keeping toys and things. There is more room in this bedroom than it appears, but definitely not a whole lot of play space.
... and a desk and chair in the corner of the main room (doubles as living and dining room), but you'll get the idea.
"My" space.
Our apartment in Bonn was what one would kindly call "retro" and had largely not been updated. This one is modern, efficient in space, and yet light and welcoming--at least, we think so! The balcony feels like an extra room and so far the only complaint is that it's close enough to a busy street that we get a fair amount of street noise. But the bustle is invigorating and somehow has a different feel from US city street noise (Manhatten, for example!).
Balcony doubles as a drying space! The strong spin cycle leaves the wash nearly dry, so it's done after a few hours in the sun.

J is enjoying this "office" until he starts working at the Max Planck in September.

Everything is more spacious than I expected and the wardrobes in the bedrooms are HUGE, so we have plenty of storage for our meager belongings. Plus there is a bike room just outside the main entrance to the building and a storage room in the basement for our empty suitcases, etc. The kitchen is more than adequate--especially compared to our old apartment. It has an ample (by German standards) refrigerator with freezer below, dishwasher, oven, built-in glass top cook surface, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, and hot water maker. There could be more counter space for prep, but it's not that different from what I had in Bonn and I'm quickly getting used to it. We bought some extra dishes and silverware, paring knives and a can opener, but otherwise, everything was here!

We are still enjoying incredibly lovely, although fairly warm, weather. Tomorrow (Thursday) we are leaving for our first mini-vacation adventure: Salzburg and Wien (Vienna)!

Enjoy this little "tour"...

  2. Thanks for the “tour” of your apartment. And what a treat to be able to follow your additional adventures in Germany. On our first trip to München (15 years ago!) we loved strolling through the Alstadt, Marienplatz, and the (huge) Englischer Garten. Just beautiful! We had only a few days; you have nine months! Enjoy and keep the updates coming. Ted
